尼尔•麦格雷戈 // Neil MacGregor大英博物馆馆长，伦敦古文物学会成员，英国著名艺术史学者。1946年出生于苏格兰格拉斯哥，在牛津大学研修德文与法文，后在法国巴黎高等师范学校攻读哲学，之后在爱丁堡大学修习法律，1972年取得苏格兰律师执照。1973年在英国首屈一指的艺术史学院考陶德艺术学院研修艺术史。1975年至1981年，在英国雷丁大学教授艺术与建筑史。1981年至1987年，主编英语世界历史最悠久的美术及装饰艺术期刊《伯林顿杂志》。1987年至2002年，主持英国国家美术馆。2002年至今，任大英博物馆馆长。2010年，获英国女王颁赠功绩勋章。主要作品有《目睹拯救：艺术作品中的基督形象》《大师之作的诞生》《莎士比亚的动荡世界》等。

也许是我的浅陋，还是第一次看到这样一部以器物为主角的世界史。说句暴露我水平低下的话，此前我一直以为世界史最好的就是斯塔夫里阿诺斯的《全球通史》，那一套书视野宏大，角度客观，我看了很多遍。 大英博物馆馆藏珍品无数，若从中选多当然易如反掌，然而从中只选取...

配合中文版的大英博物馆世界简史一起看会更好，这本原版唯一的缺憾就是没有彩色的图片以及各种器物的细节。

没有想象中那么好看，本来以为会是很新颖的角度，但局限于大英博物馆的收藏，感觉很多叙述是片面的，不能称之为world history，同时叙述的口吻更像教科书

终、终于读完了……文字其实很好读，就是忒厚orz

错了……是这版

作者很少讲大英博物馆的这些藏品怎么来的，即使讲到也只是轻描淡写，令我有种不适乃至厌恶的感觉。
