Jim Stentzel，美国言论界人士，上世纪七八十年代就职于日本东京的一家外国记者俱乐部，曾经采访过当年处于军事独裁体制下的韩国。2005年，他编写了《守护时代的良心》(Choi Myung-Hee译，民主化运动纪念事业会，2007年)，里面收录了曾经直接投身于韩国民主化运动的Ogle牧师、Sinnott神父等来自美国、加拿大、澳大利亚及德国的共15名外国传教士的亲身经历。这是一本独特的书，它通过“外人”的眼睛去窥探韩国民主化运动的内面。正如译者指出的，这本回忆录让我们感动，因为它表现了韩国的民主化及争取人权运动是由全世界各地区人士共同参与的、具有国际普遍意义的运动。当然，并不是所有在韩的外国传教士都参与了这项运动。“大部分的传教士选择了沉默。他们害怕会因此失去自己的事业、家庭和富裕的生活。他们认为自己作为韩国政府的客人，应该尽量不去干预‘他国的政治’。” 但是，包括这15人在内的很多传教士认为，在韩国军事政权与美国共同阴谋策划下，韩国民众的人权被压制，民主被蹂躏，在这种情况下选择沉默，是有悖于自己所信奉的基督精神的。他们不顾自身的安危，创建了“星期一聚会”这一国际性网络，从精神和物质两方面对反抗高压体制的韩国人提供帮助。他们是韩国反政府地下运动的支持者和通信网，是收集和向海外传递有关民主主义及人权被蹂躏真相资料的通道，同时也是深陷危机中的韩国运动家们赖以保护自身安全的最后一道堡垒。
