Some in the social sciences argue that the same logic applies to both qualitative and quantitative methods. In "A Tale of Two Cultures", Gary Goertz and James Mahoney demonstrate that these two paradigms constitute different cultures, each internally coherent yet marked by contrasting norms, practices, and toolkits. 要想实现两种方法论的和解，得先承认并找出分歧。这本书能很好地弥补KKV里对质性方法简单粗暴的解读。

set theory的应用使得作者强调定性研究和定量研究是实证主义之中两个不同的研究方法。应该和KKV一起看。

几乎被钦定成KKV的补充版本。4-6和第9章重新比较了两种方法，较KKV 更为细致，7-8则简明（但不足）介绍了process tracing（这分量还得不上David Collier的paper），14讲了case selection，其余章节则涉及到一些设计和重要概念比方说counterfactual, path dependence and critical juncture。。。磨刀不误砍柴工，就这么反复读吧，希望能早日摆脱方法论要不然柴都要被砍光了

Mahoney说本以为承认quant的好处，表明quant跟qual可以共存可以让qual的方法更能被接受，结果发现人们还是甚至于更加攻击qual。所以下一本书不打算这么做了????
