媒體究竟給慈善機構帶來什麼樣的倫理睏境和機遇？1999年的書討論的是90年代初的案例，卻對中國的現狀非常有啓發意義。本書唯一讓老豬不爽的地方就是還殘留些冷戰形成的對中國的一些刻闆印象。新版封麵用的圖片恰恰是建立在作者批判的一種視覺機製上：英雄的白人正在拯救受苦受難的黑人。作為SCF的一員，作者本身反對NGO在宣傳中強調自己作為英雄和拯救者的角色，而忽略受災地方內在自我的生長能力。對比同時在閱讀的《電視檔案》，裏麵則是充斥著記者英雄般的自我陶醉，毫無反思。
