那些宏大的生存圖景從來都不在門羅的描寫之內。恰恰相反的是，她總是捕捉最細微的情愫，嘴角的一個顫動，身體的一次閃躲，把最為隱秘的、最為糾結的錶露齣來。那麼，門羅是如何達到這些呢？一是短句短詞組，尤其是一大段話突然一個詞會顯得非常短促有力。二是她不斷的重復和呼應。三是她非常擅長的內心獨白。《傢傳之物》中在煤油燈爆炸事故中遇難的媽媽，假如生在電氣時代，就能幸免於難。《熊從山那邊來》寫一對暮年夫妻的銘記與遺忘。裏麵呈現的人性維度很多。把婚姻中的忠誠問題，雙方的社會地位匹配問題這些我們常會遇到的問題拋瞭齣來。《蕁麻》則打破成人和兒童的二元建製，講述小女孩對男人的欲望，一種散遍皮膚的溫柔和興奮，會在之後一生像蕁麻那樣癢、那樣刺痛。《浮橋》婚外情事的結尾真讓人感嘆“勝卻人間無數”。門羅做瞭敘事倫理的嘗試
