GR上有很多一星評價。最上麵的一條說，這本書要為韆萬條生命的塗炭負責。我：納尼，一個美國記者和作傢，有這麼大能量？接著往下看，說剋林頓非常喜歡這本書，而作者筆下描繪的巴爾乾，讓剋作齣瞭不乾預前南內戰的決定。哦，原來如此。卡普蘭有沒有戴著有色眼鏡？也許有。作為一個美國人，甚或是必須有。但藉用郭德綱一句話：如果聽段相聲就把你教壞瞭，來之前你是個什麼玩意兒？

Robert與太太結婚並在希臘居住，所以可以看到他對希臘政治體製的熟稔，當然更多的是對Andreas Papandreou的批判和無奈。希臘的債務危機可以從上世紀的國傢體製中溯源。
