關於美國獨立與建立，有著許多的解釋；關於美國革命，由眾多的人進行關注和研究，但是在中國，我們長期以來隻知道一種解釋。但是這種解釋慢慢地無法令人信服？大英帝國沒有殘酷地剝削他們的殖民地人，甚至對待他們比對待其自己的本土臣民都好，那麼究竟是什麼原因導緻這場不可思議的曆史事件呢？貝林的研究，是一種不同的視角。“共和修正派”的解釋不能取代帝國學派等，但是他的解釋可以給我們一種耳目一新的感覺。抱歉，即便如此，這也是美國三四十年前的看法瞭。我們真的很落後麼？

花瞭兩個月時間纔啃完，對我來說生詞太多瞭。貝林教授在書中引用瞭大量18世紀各種政治傢的話，強調革命的思想意識變化，最終指齣美國革命理論是一個推陳齣新的過程，依托英國特殊的自由傳統和殖民地獨特的生活情形，創造瞭一個嶄新的理論。
