Williams, as he so often did with his plays, rewrote Cat on a Hot Tin Roof for many years—the present version was originally produced at the American Shakespeare Festival in 1974 with all the changes that made Williams finally declare the text to be definitive, and was most recently produced on Broadway in the 2003-04 season. Big Daddy和Brick有关Mendacity的争论很有意思，生活中充满了不实和谎言，Brick的冷漠是对自我的厌弃，清醒意识到又力量不够的人就选择逃避，Mae和Gooper能和它们共存得很好，而Maggie the cat介于其中，对于一只在热铁皮屋顶上的猫来说，胜利只是多在上面呆一秒钟。TW的第三幕更合理，Brick对Maggie突如其来表达的爱慕与他之前表现的冷漠格格不入，我也怀疑一席谈话，不管多么深刻，会带来立竿见影的改变。
