太写实了，人物情节都不那么引人入胜。坚持看完以后发现她对农村生活的观察非常细致——“原教旨主义，性别歧视，种族歧视，对残障人士的歧视” 到今天还是没有太大改变。

just heart-striking and inspirational! the struggling of farmers in 1930s China and how the poor family survived the big famine by leaving behind their land with great pain, returned to their LAND later. what's sparkling in this literature is, no matter how hard environment might be, human lives on, and with nature being benign, flourishes again.

看完这本我觉得我更理解我爸了。和《活着》一起看的，以至于情节都弄混了，但是很显然《活着》更优秀。good earth得了诺贝尔文学奖，《活着》没得。没什么可骄傲，这本有的只是语言优势。所以这本书告诉我，不能迷信诺贝尔文学奖。

赛珍珠写中国农民的生活写成这样算不错了。不过还是感觉流于表面描写，深度有限。
