重读。主人公信仰和亲情失落的过程如同Enniscorthy的海水年复一年侵蚀陆地一般，悄悄啃噬慢慢推进，甚至给人某种世界会亘古不变的错觉，其实一切早已于不经意间发生了质变。但是水也不尽然只有毁灭性的力量，它也是事物运动的载体，也能带来重生的机会；所以小说最后一章中Eamon用一盆水给小孙子Michael作为玩具，化解了他对自己的生疏感和惧怕感，并和女儿、孙子在海边游泳戏水，与当年父亲(名字也叫Michael)教自己游泳的情景遥相呼应，暗含了一种不计前嫌重建亲情的可能。从更宏大的视角来看，Eamon作为爱尔兰共和国高级法官，他宗教信仰的变化和对爱尔兰民族主义的矛盾态度也是对上世纪六十年代后爱尔兰社会变化的一种审视和反思。

【藏书阁打卡】浓浓的归乡情结和这个除夕前正在归家的氛围绝妙地吻合！然而死亡却是这部小说的永恒主题。幼年丧母，青年丧父，老来丧妻；曾经慈祥的祖父，喜欢阅读的叔叔，也一一离他而去。小说开头是和妻子两个人每年夏天都会回到blackWater这个他们熟悉的小镇，在夏日的平静里回忆起的却是和父亲以及祖父一家温暖的圣诞聚会；而到了小说结尾，却是他孑然一身独自回到那个充满满满记忆的老房子悼念亡妻。一部开始温馨后面痛苦结尾又给人希望的中篇，我好喜欢，在这个除夕前的冬夜里！ I also dreamed which charmed me most That you loved me still the same That you loved me,loved me,still the same
