When Andy Warhol arrived in new York from Pittsburgh, in the early 1950's, he had no money, no name recognition, and few acquaintances. He did however have a keen sensibility, a fresh eye, and plenty of ambition. He quickly earned considerable distinction for his whimsical and lithe illustrations, which graced the pages of a variety of lifestyle magazines including Ladies Home Journal. Fanciful shoes, bouquets of spring posies, and napping cats are familiar motifs from this early period of Warhol's work. In addition to these beloved images are some of his first silver and gold foil renderings, rubber stamp drawings, and early erotic portraits. These charming images from the very start of Warhol's career are collected together in this delightfully designed volume, featuring a wealth of color and accompanied by an informative chronology of events in the artist's career during this pivotal decade.
