罗伯特·J.索耶，加拿大最具影响力的科幻作家，是历史上仅有的包揽雨果奖、星云奖和坎贝尔奖最佳长篇奖的八位作家之—。他先后出版过22部长篇科幻，荣获得全球各国多种科幻奖项41余次。2009年，他的小说《未来闪影》被改ABC电视台改编为同名美剧。

索耶先生也是一位活跃的科学文化以及未来学传播者与学者。他是美国SyFy频道的嘉宾，“探索”频道加拿大版的常年评论员，曾受邀在TED上发表专题演说。

索耶先生组织创立了“美国科幻与奇幻作家协会”（SFWA）加拿大分会，并担任了三年SFWA董事会董事的职务。为了鼓励更多的人投身科幻创作，索耶还积极从事科幻教学工作。他在莱尔森大学、多伦多大学等高等学府教授科幻写作课程，有的学生甚至从美国的亚特兰大和佐治亚远赴多伦多听课。
