關於作者

亨利—皮埃爾·羅什(Henri-Pierre Roché，1879-1959)， 由於父親過世的早，所以他是在母親專製的熱情下成長的。

他讀的是政治，卻對繪畫情有獨鍾，直到他自覺天分不夠，纔放棄繪畫，改為收藏畫作。他翻譯瞭一些中國詩，終其一生都是文學、繪畫、旅行的業餘愛好者。其中，羅什常為人提及的事跡，是將畢加索介紹給美國人認識。

一九五三年，羅什以七十四歲的高齡發錶瞭第一本小說《祖與占》，這在文學史上十分罕見。

法國導演特呂弗十分欣賞羅什精湛、簡潔的文筆，兩人約定共同完成《祖與占》的電影劇本。

一九六一年，在特呂弗完成《祖與占》的拍攝時，羅什已在一年前過世。
