以偵探小說的標準，馬洛大部分時間都沒有在好好偵破案件，大部分時間他都在懟天懟地，大部分時間他被人懟……故事也是迷之節奏，不過呢，人物塑造得不錯，而且實在會寫，各種白描，對白，簡直棒的不行……什麼我的腦子一團漿糊就像粘蠅紙上的蒼蠅什麼的神來之筆超多。

這本書的戰綫被我拉得很長，中途看到一半將書落在飛機上，又重補瞭一本繼續。錢德勒筆下的偵探小說文學性要遠高於推理性，詭計，槍聲和屍體隻是穿插其中的點綴，而每每自覺要被淹沒在緩慢推進的故事綫中的時候，一段格外有韻味或哲理的文字就如同一劑濃雞血，令人精神一振，繼續投身於Marlowe的憤世嫉俗，執著以及奇特的忠誠當中。To say goodbye is to die a little.
