用十九世纪的英国小说做例子, 介绍当时的社会. 很好的入门简介. 看了之后再回头看小说可以理解不少细节.

地铁读物，学了不少冷知识。当然，尽信书则不如无书，毕竟是介绍性质的书，虽然没有硬伤，但细节未必准确。其他部分不清楚，教育和医学那两块显然不够严谨。比如19世纪的内科医生不只靠背书，关于书本知识和临床实践的大辩论经久不息。临床解剖用的尸体绝不是“来路不明”，相反，从边沁时代就很明确，来自死刑犯和穷人（所以后来人们担心这样会引发“贫穷是罪”的扭曲价值观）。
