有一些故事真的不错。Part I 的好短篇最多，Au Sable营造悬念空间，Ugly则以艾丽丝.门罗的风格描述一个女侍应的日常生活，Summer Sweat，Questions和Physical就返回六七十年代的主题和风格，探讨男性力量所造成的伤害、郊区生活所隐藏的不安定与贫乏。Part II集中探讨家庭，标题故事Faithless堪称集中最佳，充满了怜悯，又不乏惊人的转折。Part III中的故事可以称为类型小说，像我这种英语差的人觉得这些号称mystery的故事真是无聊且冗长啊！除了那篇旨在伤害读者的The High School Sweetheart，其他短篇看上去都是一个样，关注施暴者的心理状态，以及暴力所带来的伤害。
