阿拉贡的凯瑟琳三部曲的第一部。作者Eleanor Hibbert（JP是她的笔名）是上世纪初生人，活到86岁高龄，写了几百部西欧宫廷小说，文笔清新典雅，故事细腻生动并且相当贴合历史。以这部书为例，史实部分几乎严丝合缝地参考加勒特·马丁利的传记《阿拉贡的凯瑟琳》（该作者有本中文译著《无敌舰队》）。相较之，菲利帕·格里高利就太戏说了。
