当年随便翻书架翻的A Day's Wait，很喜欢，但跟这本短篇集里风格不大一样。用字简练，对话的反复，海明威的小说看起来容易，但是理解起来不简单，他会把一些东西藏起来，所谓冰山理论，尤其是A Sea Change，没看批评家的解释，还真不知道其中的奥秘。必须有文本解读配套，而且文笔不优美，但是老海有他的特点和风格。
评分比起译本而言，原本可以更好地体现两个特点：第一是所谓“冰山”，未必是情节的简练，相反是用更还原的态度来展现一个故事，换句话说，不做过多的上帝视角描写。第二，海明威是真的喜欢不断的重复一句很简单的话…
