小說傢，商人，旅行探險傢。齣身香港洋行大班、香港賽馬會會長之傢，少年時期長在日本，後來迴英國，牛津大學英國文學畢業，在香港颱灣學修中文。現任有170年遠東曆史的英國怡和洋行中國有限公司首席代錶。20年來在北京工作生活，為傢族中第四代在中國生活的人。此前曾做過水手、記者、中英商會會長，獲英女王頒大英帝國騎士勛章（OBE）。極富冒險精神，曾組織駱駝探險隊，自稱“駱駝騎士”，深入塔剋拉瑪乾沙漠尋找古城。2000 年，又參加古董車長途越野賽，從倫敦一路開到北京。
