A History of Mathematics

Carl Benjamin Boyer (November 3, 1906 – April 26, 1976) was a historian of mathematics. He wrote the books History of Analytic Geometry, History of the Calculus, A History of Mathematics, and The Rainbow: From Myth to Mathematics.[1]

这本书还没有通读，我先读了自己最感兴趣的，关于牛顿，高斯，柯西的章节，很不错。 难度比《古今数学思想》要低。有人说：“历史有余，数学不足。”我倒是觉得这样的很适合周末阅读。又不是专门讲数学定理的，干嘛要搞这么难。 不过到20世纪之后的数学涉及的不够具体。...  

在数学史里，从来不缺天才。 有一个细节，牛顿生活的时代流行一种数学挑战，一个数学家在自己精通的数学领域里提出一个问题，指定另一个数学家给出答案，出题者自己是不知道答案的，很有可能他本人已经在这个问题上研究了很久。而所有向牛顿挑战的数学家都在当天收到了解答。...
