李奧納特·蘇士侃(Leonard Susskind)是美國理論物理學傢,美國斯坦福大學教授,弦論的創始人之一,他和其所領導的研究小組並提齣宇宙的發展需要一外在的力量(agent)來參與而非自身發展的看法。
弦理論的雛形是在1968年由Gabriele Veneziano 發現。他原本是要找能描述原子核內的強作用力的數學公式,然後在一本老舊的數學書裏找到瞭有200年之久的歐拉公式(Euler's Function),這公式能夠成功的描述他所要求解的強作用力。然而進一步將這公式理解為一小段類似橡皮筋那樣可扭麯抖動的有彈性的“綫段”卻是在不久後由Leonard Susskind(李奧納特·蘇士侃)所發現,這在日後則發展齣“弦理論”。
