Almost no innovation is possible now in discussing the relationship between modernity, enlightenment, and art in modern China. This book is still worth-reading: carefully researched and beautifully written, although sometimes not clear enough. The last chapter is just great as a conclusion.

名不虛傳的文本細讀功力。前三章摘史料顯得太細密瞭，也不是什麼新套路，讀得好睏；四五章和結論相當精彩；《怒吼吧中國》無論放在何時何地都稱得上是最高傑作那一檔的。不過第三章最後一部分讀齣一身冷汗，討論對象和用的材料都和碩論相當接近，幸虧到最後發現論述並不雷同，但怎麼講，還是有種班門弄斧完瞭問：“這誰傢房子啊？”的羞恥感。
