This collection of 12 research-based chapters covers important issues relating to marriage, set in the context of Hong Kong, an affluent and Westernized society still with strong traditional Chinese family values. In a recent survey, less than 10% of responding couples consider their marriage unsatisfactory, and less than half of them consider divorce an option. According to the editors of this volume, while the rate of divorce has been increasing in Hong Kong as everywhere else, Hong Kong still has a marriage culture rather than a divorce culture. The objective of the book is to enable professionals to strengthen and save marriages where possible, and if divorce is unavoidable, to help couples resolve problems with minimal acrimony.
The book is suitable for both social work academics and professional counsellors who work with families and marriages.
