愛德華．霍剋

1930年2月22日生於美國紐約州羅徹斯特。當代美國短篇推理創作最豐富的作傢，很可能也是全世界短篇推理寫作量最大的，截至目前為止已有近韆篇作品問世，被譽為當代短篇推理小說之王。

九歲接觸「艾勒裏．昆恩推理劇場」廣播劇後，從此深深迷上推理小說。十九歲那年加入美國推理作傢協會，因而認識瞭約翰．狄剋森．卡爾、艾勒裏．昆恩、剋雷格．萊斯（Crag Rice）等大師級作傢，埋下日後提筆創作推理小說的種子。1973年5月開始，在美國發行量最大、經營最長久的《艾勒裏．昆恩推理雜誌》（EQMM）上持續刊載小說至今，並在艾勒裏．昆恩晚年代筆完成長篇小說《色情電影謀殺案》（臉譜齣版）。

愛德華．霍剋用他量多且質精的作品，另外拿下瞭1998、2001年安東尼獎的最佳短篇小說；長期以來投入推理創作的執著，獲得1999年金德林加獎、2000年夏姆斯獎和2001年安東尼獎頒發終身成就獎，以及2001年美國推理作傢協會頒予愛倫坡獎大師獎，肯定他多年來為推理文學產生的重要貢獻與深遠影響。
