Companies use design systematically to plan their manufacturing, shape their marketing and make their products more attractive, while many designers have sought to raise the status of their activity to that of an art form and even - like Ettore Sottsass - to see it as "a way of discussing life". Dormer questions orthodoxies, defines the contexts within which designers work, and aims to cover the wide range of post-war activity, including industrial and product design, graphics, furniture, textiles, kitchen utensils and tableware. His previous books include "The New Ceramics", "The New Furniture" and "The Meanings of Modern Design".

原文是好書，此譯本則很糟糕。 我不認識譯者，實話實說而已。隻要找隨便找一段話，甚至是一句話，比較一下，就會感到慘不忍睹。隻要英語基本語法還算過得去，就算有很多單詞不認得，靠著字典也不該拿齣如此惡劣的譯本。 說實在的，譯者既然根本看不懂原文，就不應該再齣什麼譯...
