It is a good way to read about history though most of the characters are fictional. As a novel, it is pretty good as well, I was amazed by Duponte's wit, and sad about what happened to Poe. Sometimes tragedies happen not because people's wrongdoing or bad intention, quite the opposite it is their lack of action and sympathy.
