老实说，当时看的不是penguin这版的，看的是图书馆里借到的Chinese foreign press。好像是这个名字，也记不清了。当时也很奇怪，为什么英国大学的图书馆会有中国的英译版，但是想来差别也不会太大。很薄的一本书，简单的介绍了列宁的革命观，有我们很熟悉从资本主义到人民民主专政，最后到共产主义的历史发展，从社会理论的角度刨析了国家发展。很理论，除了在介绍巴黎公社，如果我记得没错。有一点和历史结合。其他都是理论性的文字。所以，当时对抱着为论文找材料目的的我来说没有什么帮助。纯粹的社会理论解析structure，system of state。而我是想找一些具体的引发革命的俄国社会现状的描写。所以这本书不合适。而且，我本身也对这种normative，social theory不感冒。
