亨利•詹姆斯（Henry James，1843—1916），19世紀繼霍桑、梅爾維爾之後最偉大的美國小說傢，美國現代小說和小說理論的奠基人，歐美現實主義嚮現代主義創作轉型時期重要的小說傢和批評傢，開創19世紀西方心理現實主義小說先河的文學藝術大師，生前曾三度（1911年、1912年、1916年）獲諾貝爾文學奬提名。

他的主要作品有《一位女士的畫像》《鴿翼》《專使》《金鉢記》等長篇小說、《黛西•米勒》《螺絲在擰緊》等中篇小說以及數量眾多的短篇小說，此外他還寫有相當數量的文學評論、遊記、傳記和劇本。他的作品聚焦美國與歐洲大陸之間的文化衝突，對20世紀崛起的現代派及後現代派文學有著非常巨大的影響。

1914年第一次世界大戰爆發後，由於不滿美國政府的中立態度，亨利•詹姆斯於次年憤然加入英國國籍。1916年初，英王喬治五世親自授予其功績勛章。同年2月28日，他在倫敦切爾西區病逝，享年73歲。遵照其遺囑，他的骨灰被安葬在美國馬薩諸塞州的劍橋公墓，墓碑上銘刻著“亨利•詹姆斯：小說傢、英美兩國公民、大西洋兩岸整整一代人的詮釋者”。
