托妮·莫裏森，美國當代最重要的女作傢之一。1931年生於美國俄亥俄州，曾擔任蘭登書屋編輯、資深編輯，1989年起任普林斯頓大學教授。主要代錶作有《最藍的眼睛》、《秀拉》、《所羅門之歌》、《寵兒》、《爵士樂》、《天堂》等，曾獲美國普利策小說奬、美國圖書評論協會奬等多項大奬。1993年獲諾貝爾文學奬，是曆史上得此殊榮的唯一黑人女作傢。

《寵兒》是托妮·莫裏森最震撼人心、最成熟的代錶作，現已經成為當代文學史上不朽的經典，也是美國文學史上最暢銷的作品之一。小說完成於1987年，1988年即獲得美國普利策小說奬。2006年《紐約時報》召集125位知名作傢、評論傢、編輯及文壇泰鬥等選齣自己心目中“25年來最佳美國小說”，《寵兒》得票最高，名列第一。
