The Alameda story begins in 1864, and laments the last of rail in 1960. Within that period this heavily illustrated history deals with ferries (crossing the Bay to San Francisco), transcontinental rail (this being the first tidewater terminus for a couple months), streetcars, bridges, and the tunnel to Oakland. Photo quality is fair to good, and many fine maps (often reproduced at a very small scale) greatly enhance the historic value of the work.
