Peronism is arguably the most important and certainly the most intellectually stimulating topic in twentieth-century Argentine politics and culture and its undercurrents are set to persist into the twenty-first century. Its prominence in the literary arena deserves to be explored. Eva Peron holds mythic status in Argentina and continues to arouse interest abroad, as is evident from such cultural productions as the musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice and the film by Alan Parker. This study offers a new dimension on her impact on literature (along with that of her husband), by extending the focus beyond the novel to the literary growth areas of auto/biography and demonstrating how the traditional generic boundaries between novel, autobiography, biography and historical writing are coming under increasing pressure.
