具体描述

The first place-by-place chronology of U.S. history, this book offers the student, researcher, or traveller a handy guide to find all the most important events that have occurred at any locality in the United States. More than 10,000 cities and towns are organized alphabetically in 50 state sections; each section starts with a brief introduction to the history of the state. The entries include founding of the city or town, population growth, disasters from fires to volcano eruptions, birth dates of favorite sons and daughters, founding dates of institutions, and myriad fascinating miscellaneous occurrences from the building of a windmill to the shooting of labour protesters. Assembled by an expert geographer assisted by 50 state historians, this unique reference is a valuable addition to any history, geography, or travel collection.
