Over the next three decades, the mosaic of cultures was modernised and homogenised out of existence by the ruling might of the Soviet Union, then Nazi Germany and finally, Polish and Ukrainian nationalism. By the 1950s, this 'no place' emerged as a Ukrainian heartland, and the fertile mix of peoples that defined the region was destroyed.

书的作者那天开会坐我前面，然后慢慢的走到讲台上做presentation。她说话的时候有一种非常冷静却又忧郁的感觉，于是当下决定去读这本书。非常出色。几乎让我在长时间的冬眠之后开始重新审视历史学家作为一个human being需要去思考的东西，重新理解已经老掉牙的nation/nationalism。强烈推荐。
