There are numerous devices proposed for chronic implantation in both central and peripheral nervous systems for molecular and electrical dose/response applications. However, the current state of device design exceeds the ability of interactive implants to survive implantation. "Indwelling Neural Implants: Strategies for Contending with the In Vivo Environment" presents strategies to address the failures of implanted sensors and drug delivery devices during wound healing. Using in vitro and in vivo test models to point out challenges, this book sets the agenda for Central Nervous System chronic implants. It also includes discussions of implants to specific neurological applications.
