Five essays by the leader of the second generation of Austrian School economists. There's much material here ripe for restoration and incorporation into current Austrian thought.
In 1891 The Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science largely cut off from intellectual development on the continent asked Bhm-Bawerk to explain what the Austrian School has to contribute. His reply appears here. Also included is an 1894 article presenting the Austrian theory of value and pricing to an American academic audience.
A fascinating 1881 essay explores whether patents, copyrights, state-provided services, employment, and even love and hate, can be considered economic goods. In this, Bhm-Bawerk both prefigures and corrects the later Public Choice and Chicago School projects. A 1914 essay is a full-scale attack on the historicists and a defense of the existence of economic law that cannot be repealed by state edict. Finally, Bhm-Bawerk writes against Marx's treatment of capital.
