當年上中東文化史的指定讀物之一

全书最出彩最有趣的几个章节还是在用福柯。不过我倒挺喜欢他把涂尔干给牵过来的做法。（忘了有人是怎么评价福柯和涂尔干的关系了，福柯把涂尔干给倒过来了还是咋地了。。。=,=）

a pre and post Said classic. Chap. 5 seems to me the most scintillating part.

论productive power和World as exhibition的形成。过于激进以致于不能成为历史社会学甚至是历史学作品。作者另一些有影响力的文章实际上从此书中的激进认识论出发，只不过稍微包装了一下。如果熟悉当代研究的话，就会很清楚这本书在关于中东的历史研究中的地位和影响了。
