Cory Korkow received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago where she focused on Italian Renaissance and British painting, and spent her third year enrolled at the University of Bologna, Italy. Writing a dissertation entitled “Queenship and the Construction of National Identity in Nineteenth Century British Visual Culture,” Cory received her PhD from the University of Virginia in 2008. Her interest in curatorial work developed during internships at the Smart Museum in Chicago, the Joslyn Art Museum in Omaha, the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Italy. Since receiving the Kress Curatorial Post-doctoral fellowship at the Cleveland Museum of Art in 2008, Cory has curated the institution’s renowned portrait miniatures collection, culminating in the exhibition “Disembodied: Portrait Miniatures and Their Contemporary Relatives”. She is the primary author of both an innovative exhibition catalogue and a scholarly publication featuring the British miniatures. With David Franklin, Cory is also co-curating the international loan exhibition “Exporting Florence: Donatello to Michelangelo” scheduled to open in Cleveland in October of 2014. She is currently Assistant Curator of European Art.
