A native of Beijing and a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, she is the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation fellowship, the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award, the Whiting Writers’ Award, and the Guardian First Book Award. Granta named her one of the best American novelists under thirty-five, and The New Yorker named her one of twenty U.S. writers under forty to watch. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, A Public Space, The Best American Short Stories, The O. Henry Prize Stories, and elsewhere. She teaches writing at the University of California, Davis, and lives in Oakland, California, with her husband and their two sons.

GR上也就给出了及格分数并不让人讶异。这个题材若换用中文写作效果可能会更好，前提是能够特别是在大陆出版——朱令事件的消费性具有巨大的潜力与张力，但在当事人依然在世情况下如何拿捏叙事与抒情的分寸就变得十分要紧。小说虽属虚妄之言，但情节如果安排的不合理让读者难以产生代入与共鸣，空有情怀怎么够？当然，情节是否合理也许并不在这本书的写作计划之内，毕竟这又是一个“你懂的”的罗生门
