The novel depicts more the awe of Jupiter, rather than the rendezvous of human and outer space intelligence in movie. If one had never learn much about Jupiter, the star child part may be boring, yet the touching part of Hal is equally shared. The daily life of astronauts is also vivid and convincing, thanks to the author's fanatic in cosmos.

後半部分值得十顆星。冰封的Europa，如魔多一樣炙熱可怖的Io，最後被引爆坍縮成第二顆太陽的Jupiter，瑰麗壯美得太讓人難忘。這一部裏宇宙高等智慧生命（神）沒有展現太多的惡意，隨意地播種，實驗，培育新的文明。全篇隻有一個小地方讓人鼻酸，是博士發迴地球的那句：We’ve done our best - and we’re coming home.

物理學跟不上，世界觀也跟不上。不喜歡已經成為star child的Bowman還以人類的語言再來和人類溝通，那種神叨叨的感覺一下沒瞭
