英国历史学者和作家。出身文坛世家,曾在剑桥伊顿公学接受教育。著有《纽约时报》畅销书《上帝的大臣》 《海的房间》《西辛赫斯特》等。其中《西辛赫斯特》获得2009年“英国皇家翁达杰文学奖”。他还曾获毛姆文学奖、海涅曼图书奖、英国地形学奖,是英国皇家文学协会会员、苏格兰考古学会会员。
