Along the way, he encounters artists, statesmen, athletes, thinkers, and lovers, including the likes of Pythagoras and Aischylos. Using the singer's unique perspective, Renault combines her vibrant imagination and her formidable knowledge of history to establish a sweeping, resilient vision of a golden century.

作者的語言很優美，景物描寫和抒情的句子也都很好看。其實不見得情節或者敘述上有多麼巧妙，大多數故事都是平鋪直敘的。但是，有這麼一類好的作者，他們寫曆史相關小說的時候，能夠真正用古代人的想法進行思考和言語，並且對衣食住行等等景物描寫，順手拈來，讓你仿佛置身其中。這是最值得學習的地方吧！

評分找到的版本略微有點標點符號的錯誤…應該是目前讀過的時間綫最早的一本。 和Mask of Apollo題材相近，但是Hippias和Hipparchos實在沒有Dion引人注目，其他詩人朋友更多的也就是雞毛蒜皮的小故事。Harmodios和Aristigeiton最後手拉著手的刺殺還是蠻戳心的，瑪麗老奶奶好像特彆愛寫這樣的場景…真正有希臘之愛氣度的倒是Solon和Pisistratos。 後來那兩個早殤愛人的雕像被擄去瞭蘇薩，巴高斯或許也見過，又被亞曆山大送瞭迴去。 See the never ending glory.
