Born in New York, Ryan Gingeras received his doctorate in history from the University of Toronto in 2006. He is the author of three books on the history of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey, including Heir to the Empire: Mustafa Kemal Ataturk and Heroin, Organized Crime, and the Making of Modern Turkey.
