伊夫林•沃（1903—1966）

英国著名小说家，被誉为“英语文学史上最具摧毁力、成果最显著的讽刺小说家之一”。他是一位优秀的文体家，作品的文字简洁，文笔辛辣，结构巧妙。

1903年，伊夫林•沃出生于英国汉普斯特德的一个文学世家，父亲是著名出版商和文学评论家。沃从小受家庭环境的影响，热爱文学。自1928年发表第一部长篇小说《衰落与瓦解》，一举成名后，他先后出版了20余部长篇小说，多部短篇小说集，以及不少游记。

1998年，著名的兰登书屋现代文库评选出“20世纪百部最佳英文小说”，沃有三部作品入选，包括《一抔尘土》（1934）、《独家新闻》（1938）、《故园风雨后》（1945）。

精细的文字，非得细细品读才有得趣味。对话中的小戏谑，优雅的不动声色的幽默，不显眼却很精妙的设计是大看点。若真是为了看情节为了看思想而大嚼特嚼这本书，就糟蹋了。
