The Fresh Voices series was inspired by a writing contest of the same name that identified high school writers interested in composing book-length works for young adults. Working with a professional editor, the young authors spent the summer learning about the book industry and meeting journalists while writing their individual books, both fiction and nonfiction. The four titles in this series represent the first four winners of the contest. Darren McAndrews and his futuristic sports team is confronted by, and eventually joins, the secret Martian military in this science fiction thriller. As war looms between Mars and Earth, Darren and his team must resolve their personal problems to withstand the trials and tribulations of military service, survive a top-secret infiltration mission, and avoid an interplanetary war. As Mars- and Earth-based powers vie for supremacy, heroism and hope for future generations emerge.
