Stephen Edwin King was born the second son of Donald and Nellie Ruth Pillsbury King. After his father left them when Stephen was two, he and his older brother, David, were raised by his mother. Parts of his childhood were spent in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where his father's family was at the time, and in Stratford, Connecticut. When Stephen was eleven, his mother brought her children back to Durham, Maine, for good. Her parents, Guy and Nellie Pillsbury, had become incapacitated with old age, and Ruth King was persuaded by her sisters to take over the physical care of them. Other family members provided a small house in Durham and financial support. After Stephen's grandparents passed away, Mrs. King found work in the kitchens of Pineland, a nearby residential facility for the mentally challenged.

我看到了很多书评！说什么不敢去厕所，说恐怖的大叫起来的！我心想：真有这么恐怖？？？还是说他们都史提芬金的超级粉丝而夸大了其辞？我看了这本小说，觉得并没有这么恐怖。也许真的是我文字与图像的联想能力不够？不过呢，其中一段儿子去打开房间门的桥...

故事情节性绝对高，小说中不断出现在小括号里的心理活动让人身临其境不断穿插的故事也很自然电影我也看过，很多东西自然没法表现，读者的想象力是作者的另一种文字，这是他高明的地方上午坐在温度一般的图书馆看完了这本书，浑身冰冷......

喜欢恐惧感的朋友绝对要看这本《闪灵》，记得读这本书的时候还是一个人住，一般都是睡觉前看几页，发觉太失策了，看完就不敢关灯睡觉了，只能改成白天看，晚上连看到那本书的封面都会觉得害怕，那段时间有好几晚上是开灯睡觉的，真是自虐啊。
