4.5/5 Jane Harper has again succeeded in delivering a powerfully suspenseful thriller with her great knowledge of Australian geography and precision in constructing complicated characters. With many satisfying twists and turns, this book ends with a heartwarming yet incredibly powerful message about family, love and human relationship.

因為The Dry的成功，迫不及待翻開今年齣的係列第二本。這又是一本讓人差不多從頭猜到尾的好懸疑。作者關於故事節奏的把握非常棒：很多懸疑故事容易太拖遝讓人中途失去耐心，亦或者不停反轉讓人覺得刻意和捏造過頭，除瞭刺激感官閤上書本後並不會去品味。而Harper小說很特彆的是：看似慢悠悠給我們展現各種人物性格心理行為的同時，又很緊湊地將故事呈現眼前，讀者興緻勃勃想追尋真相的同時，很自然地在腦海裏演練各種猜測和可能性，而不是不耐煩地想翻到最後一頁知道謎底。這種閱讀體驗是一部好的懸疑小說的特徵。另一麵，有兩個點我感覺遺憾：1）這本裏Falk和Carmen的人物性格淡化瞭很多，Carmen僅是為需要反襯彆人的工具。2）女性角色之間的聯係太臉譜化和老一套。不能說糟糕，但因上一本，對作者期望要高些。
