Steven Kellogg1941年10月26日出生于美国康涅狄克州，自小就非常喜爱绘本。Beatrix Potter 和N.C. Wyeth的作品是他的启蒙。他对任何与动物有关的故事都爱不释手，从小奶奶就教导他许多植物和动物的知識，让他对人们可能忽略的微小食物都保持着欣赏的角度。就读罗德岛设计学院时，他以杰出的能力拿到奖学金到意大利弗洛伦萨学习。在意国的经验是Steven Kellogg一生的关键期，他积累了许多绘画的经验与创意。回到美国后，除了在大学任教，Steven也开始与出版商接触出版绘本，以实现他用书说故事的梦想。

到现在，即便是过了数十载、出了90多本书，Steven对绘本的热情依旧不减，乐在其中。他与妻子和6个养子还有许多猫和狗，住在康州的私人农场里。当然孩子和动物们就成为了他画里的人物，尤其是斑点狗Pinkerton，更是响当当的封面人物。
