1914年生於美國俄剋拉荷馬州的塔爾薩，1936畢業於芝加哥大學哲學係。1957年，加德納在《科學美國人》雜誌上開設瞭一個數學遊戲專欄，這個專欄一直延續瞭四分之一個世紀，成為雜誌的一個招牌欄目。他的數學科普著作被翻譯成多國文字齣版。由於數學科普方麵的貢獻，他榮獲1987年美國數學會斯蒂爾奬和1994年數學交流奬。

After a while you will begin to catch the spirit of offbeat , nonlinear thinking, and you may be surprised to find your aha! ability improving." Studies show that persons who possess a high aha! ability are all intelligent to a moderate level, but beyond that level there seems to be no correlation between high intelligence and aha! thinking. So dig into some of the puzzles in this book, and prepare yourself for an aha! experience.

很小的時候拿到瞭這本書，那個時候還是綠色的封麵，很輕不厚。第一故事是零售機賣糖果的故事，一下子就吸引瞭那個時候還是小學的我，第二個故事是乒乓球，依然讓我至今記憶猶新。後麵有幾個故事的數學不是很懂，但是故事依然很吸引人，之後慢慢從小學，初中，高中，大學，以至...

十分可愛的書~ 小時候讀的，小故事和小謎題都十分有趣，一個暑假都愛不釋手~ 謎題和解釋也都不難，小孩子也能看懂 現在還記得有個猜帽子的謎題，當時想齣來時超級開心的 豆瓣啊 到底寫多少字纔讓發錶啊~
