Much has happened to the practice of ground-penetrating radar since the publication of the first introductory book for archaeologists by Larry Conyers (with Dean Goodman) in 1997. In this successor volume, Conyers succinctly and clearly lays out for archaeological practitioners the theory behind, and applications of, ground-penetrating radar as a non-invasive method of subsurface prospection. Designed to turn archaeologists into good consumers of GPR results, this book describes the technology, the equipment, the analysis and interpretation necessary to produce usable results. Examples from GPR projects throughout the world help show how these techniques can improve archaeological practice. Equally important, he explains the limitations of the method and ways it can be improperly used by inexperienced field workers. Advances in computer simulation, statistical modeling, virtual reality techniques, and data integration that have improved the utility of the method are also described.
