婚姻的出现最开始是为了优化财产和权力配置的社会制度，其实本来就是很实际很接地气的。而18世纪后随着物质生活质量的提升，女性受教育程度提高，以及婚姻制度被各个派别纳入政治理想的范围后，人们开始试图用爱情来衡量它，变成准入门槛，把它建立在缥缈而多变的人类情感上。这也许本来就是一种悖论。但也许正是因为这种不确定性，才让人们前赴后继着迷和疯狂，不断探索爱情的本质和维系的方法，而忘了婚姻原本是为什么而存在，所以婚姻意识转型期比如维多利亚时代，大家就比较suffer。这本社科书真的理性又佛系。但我最喜欢的还是那句话:we don't fall in love. We tiptoe into it.无论如何，敬畏之心永存。十星推荐。

I looked forward to discussions in depth for the conclusion while the expected chapter seems relatively weaker compared with the other chapters. Generally a book with tons of information. Worth reading.
